How much does a ceilidh band cost in Scotland?

Most bands make you fill in a form to find out. Ours are published, so this guide covers what actually moves the price and sets out ours in full.

What decides the price

Four things account for nearly all of the difference between one quote and another.

  • How many musicians. One, two or three players is the biggest single factor. It changes the sound and the size of room it suits, not the quality of the night.
  • Whether a DJ is included. A live band plays in sets. What fills the gaps, and whether you pay a second supplier for it, matters as much as the band's own fee.
  • Whether a caller is included. A ceilidh without a caller is a band playing dance tunes to a room that does not know the steps.
  • Travel and the date. Distance from the band's base, and whether you want a Saturday in peak season, Hogmanay or Burns Night.

Our prices

Each ceilidh package below is a complete standard evening: live music, a professional caller, full PA, atmospheric lighting, setup and pack-down, and a microphone for your speeches, with a DJ set added on the + DJ and larger band packages. The Wedding DJ package is different: it is a DJ-led full wedding day with no ceilidh or caller.

  • Solo Ceilidh: £650 (standard evening) — Live Ceilidh
  • Solo Ceilidh + DJ: £750 (standard evening) — Ceilidh & DJ
  • Duo Ceilidh: £850 (standard evening) — Live Ceilidh
  • Duo Ceilidh + DJ: £950 (standard evening) — Ceilidh & DJ
  • Wedding DJ: £1,000 (full wedding day) — All-Day Wedding Package
  • Full Ceilidh Band + DJ: £1,200 (standard evening) — Premium Live Package
  • Ultimate Live Package: £1,500 (standard evening) — Ceilidh + Live Covers + DJ

What each one includes, line by line, is on the packages page.

Optional extras

Anything beyond the standard evening is priced separately and up front:

  • Karaoke – up to 1 hour: £100
  • Staffed Selfie Pod: £250
  • Saxophone Power Hour: £400 (subject to availability)
  • Popcorn Machine Hire: £200
  • Candy Floss Machine Hire: £200
  • Giant Love Letters: £150

What to check before you compare two quotes

A lower headline figure is only cheaper if it covers the same things. Ask each band whether the price already includes:

  • The caller
  • A DJ for the gaps between sets, and for how long
  • PA sized for your room, and lighting
  • Setup, sound check and pack-down time
  • A microphone for the speeches
  • Travel to your venue, as a stated number

The same questions are in our longer guide to choosing a wedding band in Scotland.

Travel

We are based in Perth and there is no travel charge within 100 miles of it, which takes in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling and most of the country. The area pages say what to expect in each region.

Which package suits you

As a rough guide, one musician and a caller fills a room of around 80 guests perfectly well. Two musicians suit 80 to 150, and three are for larger rooms or high ceilings. If you want the ceilidh and a dance floor that carries on afterwards, choose a package with the DJ built in. If your guests would rather have a DJ and no ceilidh at all, the all-day wedding DJ is the one to look at.

Quick answers

How much does a ceilidh band cost for a wedding in Scotland?

With us, a standard evening is £650 for a solo ceilidh up to £1,500 for ceilidh, live covers and DJ. Each ceilidh package is for the full evening with a professional caller, PA, lighting, setup and a speeches microphone included, and the ones marked + DJ (and the larger band packages) add a full DJ set.

Is a caller included in the price?

In ours, yes, on every ceilidh package. It is worth asking any band, because the caller is what makes a ceilidh work for guests who have never danced one.

Do you charge for travel?

Not within 100 miles of Perth, which covers most of Scotland. Beyond that it is quoted clearly before you book, never added afterwards.

Is a deposit needed to hold a date?

Yes. A deposit secures the date and the balance follows nearer the time. The exact amount and due dates are set out in the booking agreement before you pay anything.
