Weddings across Scotland
Are Ye Dancin' is a wedding band and a DJ in a single booking: a live ceilidh with a professional caller, and a full DJ set running between the sets and through to the end of the night. One supplier, one setup, one all-in price — based in Perth and working right across Scotland.
Worth being straight about this before anything else, because "wedding band" covers two quite different things in Scotland and the choice matters more than the choice between suppliers.
We are a ceilidh band. The band plays traditional Scottish dance tunes and a professional caller walks the room through each dance before it starts, then talks people through it while it runs. That second part is the whole job, and it is why a ceilidh gets the guests who never dance onto the floor — nobody has to already know anything. A covers band, by contrast, plays songs people recognise, and the dancefloor tends to fill with the same enthusiastic thirty guests all night while the rest watch.
We are not a covers band, with one exception: our Ultimate Live Package adds a live covers set to the ceilidh and the DJ. If four hours of chart and rock covers is specifically what you picture, that is a different kind of band and we would rather tell you now. There is a fuller and equally unvarnished comparison in our guide to choosing a wedding band in Scotland, including the parts that point away from booking us.
Most Scottish weddings that work well are a ceilidh first and a disco after — the ceilidh does the mixing early, while people are still shy and the two families have not met, and the DJ carries the momentum once they have loosened up. Here is the shape of it.
Every package is a complete evening rather than a starting point. The professional caller, the full PA, atmospheric lighting, setup and pack-down, and a wireless microphone for your speeches are all in the price. The ceilidh and the DJ switch back and forth all night at no extra cost, because they are the same booking.
The one thing quoted separately is travel beyond 100 miles of Perth, and it is quoted before you commit rather than added afterwards. Almost everywhere with a wedding venue in Scotland falls inside that line.

Full detail of what each one includes is on the packages page. If you want a DJ-led day without the ceilidh, that is the all-day wedding DJ package.
More weddings are shaped by the venue than by the band. Floor space, power, load-in access, whether a sound limiter is fitted and what time the music has to stop all change what works — a tightly set limiter and a full drum kit rarely get on, and a ceilidh needs more floor than a disco because Strip the Willow wants a long run. We have written down everything we need from a room on the venues page, and it is worth reading before you sign anything.
If your guests have never been to a ceilidh, the ceilidh dances pages set out every dance they will actually be doing, step by step. Nobody needs to read them — that is what the caller is for — but people like knowing.
Everywhere within 100 miles of Perth carries no travel charge, which covers the great majority of Scotland. Each area page covers the rooms there, what to sort before the night, and when that part of the country books up.
Both, and it is worth being precise. We are a ceilidh band with a professional caller and a full DJ set built into the same booking. We are not a covers band playing four hours of chart songs — one package includes a live covers set, the rest pair the ceilidh with the DJ. If a covers band is specifically what you want, we would rather say so now than at your wedding.
Yes, and that is the entire point of the caller. Every dance is explained and walked through before the music starts, then called all the way through it. First-timers are dancing within minutes. It is consistently the thing couples tell us surprised them most.
No. The DJ is the same booking, the same PA and the same people, on every package except the ceilidh-only one. Booking a band and a DJ separately means two suppliers, two setups, two invoices and a gap while one packs down and the other sets up.
For a Saturday between May and September, a year or more is normal and eighteen months is not unusual for the most popular dates. Midweek and winter dates are far easier. Checking a date costs nothing and takes seconds.
Travel beyond 100 miles of Perth, which is quoted separately and clearly up front rather than added later. Everything else — caller, PA, lighting, setup, pack-down and a speeches microphone — is in the package price.
More on the FAQ page, and what other couples have said is on testimonials. Planning a corporate night, a birthday or a ball rather than a wedding? That is the function band page.
