Getting to Glasgow

Forty-eight miles down the M80 and inside the free zone with room to spare. One genuinely Glasgow-specific thing worth knowing: the city centre operates a Low Emission Zone, and it applies to vans as well as cars. Ours is compliant, so it makes no difference to your quote — but it is a fair question to ask any supplier who is driving into town, because a non-compliant vehicle is a penalty rather than an inconvenience.

The rooms we play in Glasgow

Merchant City warehouses

Brick, timber and iron, with the volume to take a full band without straining. Superb rooms for a ceilidh and usually bare, which means everything — power, lighting, staging — arrives with somebody rather than living there.

West End townhouses and halls

Victorian rooms with high ceilings and good proportions. Frequently on an upper floor with a grand staircase and no lift, which is a load-in problem dressed as an architectural feature.

City hotels and corporate suites

The most predictable rooms in the city and the best served — service lifts, loading arrangements, house AV and speeches infrastructure already in place.

What to sort before the night

Bare warehouse venues are the ones that need the most conversation, because 'the room is empty' can mean anything from a single 13A socket to a proper three-phase supply. We will ask what power is at the performance end, whether there is a house PA or none, and who is providing the floor. City-centre loading is restricted and timed on most central streets, so we need to know where to stop and for how long. The LEZ applies from the moment you cross into the centre. Residential West End venues tend to have earlier curfews than the same-sized room in the Merchant City.

When Glasgow books up

Glasgow's corporate Christmas season is the biggest in Scotland and it starts booking in the spring — from late November to the week before Christmas, the city's function suites are effectively sold out, and a company night out arranged in October is arranging around what is left. Wedding season runs the usual May to September, with the West End the tightest of it.

Questions we get asked about Glasgow

Does the Low Emission Zone affect our quote?

No. Our vehicle is LEZ compliant, so driving into central Glasgow costs you nothing extra and appears nowhere on the price.

Our venue is an empty warehouse. What do you need?

Power at the band end and an honest answer about how much of it there is, plus who is supplying the floor and the lighting. Bare rooms make excellent ceilidhs; they just need agreeing rather than assuming.

Can you do a corporate Christmas night in Glasgow?

Yes, and it is worth asking early — the city's December is the most heavily booked month anywhere we work, and the dates go long before the invitations do.

How late can we play?

The venue's licence decides it, not us — we play to whatever time the room is licensed for and build the evening around that. Worth checking before you book, because a West End residential venue and a Merchant City warehouse of the same size often have very different curfews.

Do you cover Paisley, East Kilbride and the towns around the city?

Yes, and at no extra cost — the whole of Greater Glasgow sits inside the free-travel zone. The town list on this page is where we play most often rather than a boundary.

Can we have the ceilidh first and a DJ set after?

That is the usual shape of the night, and it is what the packages are built around: live ceilidh with a caller while everyone is up, then the DJ takes over and keeps them there. Full PA and lighting are included either way.
