Edinburgh is thirty-two miles from base and one of the busiest parts of the diary — city dates book up earliest, particularly Saturdays and anything in festival season.
City-centre hotels, Old Town cellars and Fringe-season ceilidh nights. Edinburgh venues are often up a stair or through a courtyard, so we plan the load-in in advance.
Getting to Edinburgh
Thirty-two miles over the M90 and the Queensferry Crossing, comfortably inside the free zone. Distance is not the issue in Edinburgh; the last half mile is. Getting a van to a city-centre door takes longer than getting it to the city, and in August it can take longer again, so we build the arrival time around the venue rather than the mileage.

Old Town cellars and vaults
Stone, low arched ceilings and a great deal of natural reverb. Atmospheric beyond argument, and acoustically the most demanding rooms in Scotland — a smaller line-up played carefully beats a big one played loud every time.
City-centre hotels
New Town and West End ballrooms with the infrastructure to match: lifts, loading arrangements, house AV and a limiter set to a number the duty manager can tell you.
Townhouses and members' rooms
Georgian interiors on upper floors, usually listed. Elegant rooms with a stone stair between them and the street, and a strict view on what may be attached to anything.
What to sort before the night
Edinburgh has the hardest load-ins we do, and it is worth being blunt about why: cobbled setts that flight-case wheels hate, closes and courtyards with no vehicle access at all, cellar venues reached by a flight of stone stairs, loading bays with tight time limits, and bus and tram lanes that decide where a van may legally stop. None of it is a problem when it is known in advance and all of it is a problem at six o'clock on a Saturday. Residential neighbours mean curfews are enforced rather than nominal. Tell us the venue when you enquire and we will find out the rest ourselves.

When Edinburgh books up
August is its own economy. The Festival and the Fringe take function rooms out of circulation, fill every hotel and slow the city centre to walking pace, and venues that are available price accordingly. Hogmanay is the other immovable peak. Between the two, the Saturdays from May to September go first, and Edinburgh is consistently the part of the diary where couples who leave it late find their date is gone.

Questions we get asked about Edinburgh
Our venue is a cellar in the Old Town. Will it be too loud?
It can be, in the wrong hands. Stone vaults reflect everything, so the answer is a smaller line-up and careful level setting rather than more PA. Tell us the venue and we will recommend the package that suits the room.
Is there a travel charge to Edinburgh?
No. Edinburgh is thirty-two miles from Perth and well inside the free-travel zone.
Can you play during the Festival in August?
Yes, though it is the hardest month in the city to find a room and we will need a longer window for the load-in than the same venue would need in March. Get in early.
How far ahead should we book an Edinburgh Saturday?
Earlier than anywhere else we work. Edinburgh Saturdays go first in the diary, and August is gone well before the rest of the year. If you have a date in mind it is worth checking it now, even if nothing else is settled.
Do you bring your own PA and lighting?
Yes — full PA and lighting are included in every package, along with a mic for the speeches. That matters more in Edinburgh than most places, because a lot of Old Town and courtyard rooms have no house system at all.
Our ceremony, dinner and dancing are all in the same room. Does the turnaround work?
It works, but the timings need agreeing rather than assuming. We will ask when the room is being flipped and how long we have, and set up around it. Tell us early and it is routine; tell us on the night and it is a scramble.
