Getting to The Borders
Sixty-two miles south, and all of it inside the free zone including Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is over the border in England and still costs you nothing in travel. The roads south are A-roads rather than motorway for most of the way, so we allow more time than the mileage implies and would rather arrive early and wait than arrive on schedule and rush.

Town halls with sprung floors
The Borders has more of these than anywhere else we work, and they are the best ceilidh rooms in Scotland. A sprung floor gives the dancing back its own energy — you can feel the difference from the stage.
Country houses and estates
Tweed valley houses with proper ballrooms, often listed. Elegant rooms, careful load-ins, and lighting that stands rather than clamps.
Farm weddings and steadings
Working farms with converted buildings or a marquee in a field. Generator power is common and the ground matters as much as the room does.
What to sort before the night
The genuinely Borders-specific consideration is the run home. Sixty-two miles of A-road after a one o'clock finish is a long night, and it is the reason we are careful about back-to-back bookings in this area rather than the reason we would decline one. On the ground, farm venues bring the usual generator and field-parking questions, and the town halls bring almost none — level access, real power, a caretaker with keys and a floor that does half the work. Coastal venues around Eyemouth get weather that inland venues do not.

When The Borders books up
The Common Ridings run through the summer and are the fixed points of the Borders calendar — each town has its own, they matter enormously locally, and function rooms and accommodation in that town are unavailable around them. Anybody planning a Borders wedding between June and August should check the local Riding date before fixing anything. Outside that, the area is less contested than the central belt and good dates are findable closer in.

Questions we get asked about The Borders
Do you charge travel to the Borders, or to Berwick-upon-Tweed?
Neither. The whole Borders region and Berwick-upon-Tweed sit inside the 100-mile free-travel zone from Perth, even though Berwick is in England.
What makes a sprung floor better for a ceilidh?
It flexes and returns energy as people dance, so the room feels alive rather than dead underfoot. Dancers last longer on one, and a Strip the Willow on a sprung floor is a different experience entirely.
Should we worry about the Common Ridings?
Check yours before you book anything. If your date collides with the local Riding, the town's rooms and beds will already be spoken for — it is the single most useful thing to look up when planning a Borders date.
