Getting to Stirling

Twenty-seven miles down the M9 to Stirling itself, with the Trossachs adding time rather than distance once you turn west at Callander or Aberfoyle. The whole area is inside the free zone. The one thing that shifts the plan is a venue up a glen with a long private drive, where we will want to arrive earlier than the schedule strictly demands.

What to sort before the night

Historic venues are the defining constraint here and they are all constraint of the same kind. Expect stairs and no lift, doorways narrower than a modern flight case, protected floors that must not be dragged across, and a house rule about where cable can and cannot run. None of that stops a ceilidh — it just means the load-in takes twice as long as the room's size suggests, so we build that into the arrival time rather than discovering it. Several also run a limiter, and older buildings in residential settings tend to have earlier curfews than a city hotel would.

When Stirling books up

Castle and historic-venue weddings concentrate hard into May to September, and the best Saturdays in that window are spoken for a year or more ahead. The Trossachs hotels follow the tourist season for the same reason. Outside that, the area is quiet enough that a winter date is often available at short notice — and a candlelit historic room in November is arguably the better photograph anyway.
