Getting to Aberdeen

Seventy-three miles up the A90, and inside the free zone. It is one of the longer regular runs we make, which changes the schedule rather than the price — we set off earlier, and a very late finish means a long drive back, so we would rather agree the curfew at the point of booking than assume it. Deeside adds distance again once you turn west at Banchory towards Ballater.

Granite-city hotel ballrooms

Some of the largest function rooms in the country, built when the city had money and ambition in equal measure. Big rooms genuinely reward a bigger line-up — a One-Man setup in a four-hundred-seat ballroom is working uphill all night.

Corporate and conference suites

Aberdeen does corporate entertaining at a scale most Scottish cities do not. These rooms come with house AV, a speeches requirement and an events manager who will want a schedule in advance.

Deeside country houses

Royal Deeside's estate houses and hotels — smaller, more characterful rooms, often listed, and a further drive west from the city than people expect.

What to sort before the night

Two things matter here more than elsewhere. First, room size: the north-east's ballrooms are big enough that the line-up choice is a real decision rather than a preference, and we will say honestly if we think a package is too small for the room you have booked. Second, corporate integration — Aberdeen functions are far more likely to involve speeches, an awards running order, a compere slot and a house AV system we need to work alongside rather than replace. Give us the running order in advance and it is seamless; hand it over on the night and it is a scramble.

When Aberdeen books up

The corporate Christmas season is the defining feature of the Aberdeen calendar and it is large, long and booked early — the whole of December, and much of late November, is spoken for well in advance. Summer weddings on Deeside follow the usual pattern. Burns Night is taken more seriously here than in most places, and the good rooms go accordingly.

Questions we get asked about Aberdeen

Is Aberdeen really inside the free-travel zone?

Yes. Seventy-three miles from Perth, comfortably inside the hundred, so there is no travel charge on an Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire booking.

Which package suits a large hotel ballroom?

Generally one of the larger ones. A big granite ballroom needs a fuller sound to fill it, and we would rather tell you that when you enquire than have you book a line-up that spends the night working too hard.

Can you fit around speeches and an awards presentation?

Yes — it is a normal part of a corporate night here. Send us the running order beforehand, including who needs a microphone and when, and we will build the music around it.

How far into Aberdeenshire do you come?

Across the shire — up the coast towards Peterhead, inland through Inverurie and Kintore, and west along Deeside to Ballater. Deeside adds real distance once you turn at Banchory, so it is worth mentioning the exact venue when you check your date.

Is there a surcharge for a late finish, given the drive?

No. The distance changes our schedule rather than your price — we set off earlier, and we would rather agree the curfew when you book than discover it on the night. There is no late-finish charge inside the free-travel zone.

Do you play Burns Suppers and St Andrew's Night?

Yes, and both suit a ceilidh better than almost anything else in the calendar. They fall either side of the north-east's corporate season, so the dates around them go early — late January in particular.
